Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery is usually done to correct the effects of aging. Loose skin of the eyelids or fat pushing forward can produce a fatigued appearance. For the upper eyelids, excess skin and fat can be removed to enhance the appearance of the eyes and sometimes improves vision in cases of severe drooping of the eyelids. For the lower eyelids, incisions are made inside the eyelids (transconjunctival) to remove bulging fat. Depending on the needs of the patient, the procedure may be done in-office with local anesthesia or in the operating room under general anesthesia. Mild pain and swelling are typical the week after surgery. Most patients have a dramatic improvement in appearance and eyelid fatigue.
